Tandövala Naturreservat

Located in Malung-Sälen Municipality, Tandövala Nature Reserve spans approximately 3,498 hectares. The reserve is characterized by its highland environment, featuring sparse vegetation on elevated areas and rich old-growth spruce forests in valleys. Notably, the area supports species at the southern edge of their range in Sweden, including Alpine azalea and Alpine bearberry

The reserve is home to a variety of wildlife such as European pine marten, stoat, brown bear, Eurasian lynx, gray wolf, and wolverine. Birdlife is abundant, with several species of owls, birds of prey, Western capercaillie, black grouse, and hazel grouse inhabiting the area. The presence of old summer pasture settlements, or fäbodar, adds cultural significance to the natural beauty of the reserve.

Hiking trails like the Gräsbricksleden traverse the reserve, leading visitors through varied terrains and offering opportunities to explore both natural and cultural landmarks. The Norra Vardsätern cabin is available for overnight stays year-round, providing a rustic experience amidst the wilderness.
